touching base
I seem to have arrived in Vienna. The red-eye to Zürich was quick and painless. The eleven-hour layover was fairly miserable and mostly spent trying not to fall asleep. It was also, retrospectively, quite silly, as I'd've saved myself five hours by blowing off the second flight and just getting on a train. According to Google I could've walked, too, but that would have taken six days. Or rather, Google said it would take 6 Tages. Google started speaking German when I landed. This was rather unexpected. So far I'm in the middle of day one of what's at least two solid days of paperwork. I've been warned that while it's started off easy the paperwork here spans offices across the city and can become a full-contact sport. Would be easier if I hadn't caught Michelle's H1N1 head cold.

Hah – I told you to take the train! Germans LOVE paperwork; they even have a special language for it. I would feel sorry for you but I have spent the last few months dealing with american immigration paperwork which I feel could be best described as “escherian”. I now blame all americans for the convolutions of my paperwork woes. Yes, even you. Have you found a place to live yet? It would be particularly noteworthy if you found a place to live WITH Nigerians…if not, feel free to make an entertaining story up.

I am told that lemon meringue pie is the cure for what ails you. Glad you had a safe trip.
